The Farrier shoe making competition has been an integral part of the Cheshire Game & Angling Fair since the fair’s inception back in 1984. Over the years, the competition regularly attracts competitors from not only the British Isles but also from continents across the globe including Europe, Austraila, USA and Canada.
Farriery is one of a very few skilled trades that still adhere to a strict four years and two months indentured apprenticeship. Each competitor will be required to make two shoes to the judge’s specifications; which will be then judged & marked on the day.
The competition is split into three separate classes two apprentice classes 1st and 2nd year apprentice & a 3rd and 4th year apprentice. There will also be a Open Qualified Class. Each class will be roughly 45 minutes long with a 15 minute change over depending on the number of entries, The Cheshire Game & Angling Fair will be looking to get the first class started between 08:00 – 08:30 which will lead to prize giving after all classes have been completed & judged.
So come along & watch this skilled traditional trade and if you have any questions please feel free to ask and will do are best to answer them.
